I’m Sophia Ampania, a Costume Designer, Dancer, Choreographer, & Actor
Based in Roseville, CA, my main focus is designing for the stage, whether through choreography or costumes. I am dedicated to creating dynamic, immersive experiences that bring stories to life and enhance performances. My work bridges the gap between movement and design, ensuring that each production is visually striking and artistically compelling.
My journey in costume design began during high school, where I was mentored by my theater teacher. I had the privilege of assisting with numerous productions, starting with Into the Woods. As I continued to grow in my craft, I participated in the Lenaea High School Theater Festival, showcasing original designs for a student-written and produced show. This dedication earned me a bronze medal in the costume design category, a milestone that fueled my passion and commitment to the art of costume design. The following year, I competed at the same festival, earning a silver in costume design.
Dance has been a central part of my life from a young age. I trained at a local studio for a decade, advancing from student to junior teacher and eventually to student teacher. In high school, I joined the dance company, where I danced for four years and served as the Director of Costumes in my senior year. As a choreographer, I have taught multiple dance workshops, primarily focusing on musical theater, and have both choreographed and assisted with choreography for various plays and musicals throughout my high school career. I recently completed a production of Macbeth as the movement coordinator, as well as a production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as the choreographer.
My passion for dance carries over to my artistic journey as an actor, earning me the title of Principal Dancer in numerous musicals during my high school years. During a production of Urinetown the Musical, I was given the opportunity to understudy a role and swung in when the principal actor fell ill. I later went on to compete at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival in the Duo Scene and One Act categories. My duo scene placed bronze, as well as being honored with Respondent’s Choice and a Command Performance. As part of my school’s one-act: Tough City, Prone to Rain, we placed silver in the One Acts Category.
